Gustavo Eydelsteyn ComponentOne is Coming to You
Gustavo Eydelsteyn, Co-founder
Tradeshow season is here! ComponentOne technology evangelists and engineers will soon be traveling the globe to showcase the tools and technologies you need to create great desktop, Web, and mobile applications. Please stop at our booth at VSLive in Las Vegas, Microsoft Professional Developer's conference (PDC) in Los Angeles, DevConnections in Las Vegas, tekom in Frankfurt, and TechēEd EMEA in Barcelona.

If you are developing or planning to develop Web applications, you donít want to miss learning about the new ComponentOne technologies that are available to you. From the introduction of over 30 Silverlight controls in Studio for Silverlight, to the next generation of re-engineered ASP.NET AJAX-enabled controls in Studio for ASP.NET.

For the past year, we have been working on a new framework to build lightweight and high performance Web applications. The re-architected ASP.NET suite of components is now ready to ship. This includes new components (C1HeaderContentControl, C1Expander, C1Accordion, C1NavPanel, C1MultiPage, C1TabControl, and C1Slider) and enhanced replacements to existing ones (C1Menu, C1TabStrip, C1Toolbar, and C1TreeView). The new framework produces components with a footprint 3x smaller for your pages that translates to a performance gain averaging 10x faster.

We also have a huge surprise to share with you. At PDC we will be announcing a brand new product for Web/mobile development. It will amaze you. Guaranteed. Please stop by our booth to see all the exciting upcoming technologies from ComponentOne. I will be at the shows in Frankfurt and Barcelona. So, if you are there, please stop by and say hello. I look forward to meeting you.

Jeff King Easy Applications with ComponentOne True DBGrid
Jeff King, Technical Engagement Engineer II
ComponentOne prides itself on its design-time experience. We not only make tools that provide the interaction you are looking for, we also make them easy to use. As an example of this we'll take a look at True DBGrid for WinForms, which is part of Studio for WinForms, and see what we can do with only minimal code.
For this example let's say that you have been tasked with creating a simple data viewer application. We are going to be using a database from the fictional (and slightly infamous) Northwind company. The head of the sales team wants an app to view all the customers and their orders.
This article shows how, with only half a line of code, to create a professional looking application that provides us with an easy way to find customers, view their orders, and see which employee sold it to them.

What's New at ComponentOne
Studio for Silverlight M4 Released
ComponentOne Studio for Silverlight M4 released Friday, October 3, 2008. The M4 release adds these great new features:

New control, Image Magnifier for Silverlight
Adds a magnifying glass over regular images allowing end-users to zoom in on parts of the image that contain interesting details. It is a convenient alternative to deep zoom technology with a familiar metaphor.
New control, Color Picker for Silverlight
Allows end-users to select colors from professionally-designed palettes, or to build their own custom colors including support for transparency.
Extended Rich TextBox for Silverlight
The C1RichTextBox control's rich document model is patterned after the Document class in WPF and includes support for images, lists, hyperlinks, borders, background and foreground colors for text ranges, and more.
Enhanced DataGrid for Silverlight
In addition to the features supported by the Micorosoft DataGrid control, the ComponentOne DataGrid offers improved editing (using ComponentOne Studio editors such as the NumericBox), and automatic data filtering with UI support.
Extended Data for Silverlight
Now supports WPF/Silverlight data-binding and all bindable controls including the Microsoft DataGrid and Language Integrated Queries (Linq). It now uses familiar classes like DataSet, DataTable, and DataView for easier data manipulation and server communication.
